String Department
The String Department offers lessons on the following instruments· Violin · Viola · Cello · Bass Application for admission is by audition and students should have reached Grade 2 level at time of entry. All students accepted for tuition will receive a ½ hour lesson on their main instrument, a group theory and aural lesson; and will be placed in an orchestra appropriate to their level of development. We have very experienced and dedicated staff who work to support the students in developing their playing to a high standard of performance. Performance Opportunities We welcome students who are having private lessons to audition for the orchestras. They will be placed in a group suited to their level of development. All the orchestras for string students rehearse on Saturday morning, the orchestras have been designed to allow students at a similar level to work together with a view to performing in either a formal or informal setting. We believe that performance is an essential part of a student’s development. Advanced students · Concert Orchestra · Youth Orchestra Intermediate level students · String Orchestra · Concert Strings Orchestra Beginner/Junior level students · Introductory Strings · EElementary Strings · JJunior Strings We also facilitate a student’s interest in chamber music by organising quartet/trio rehearsals. Group lessons for the young beginner Shared lessons are available for young interested students who also attend the Junior Music Centre.
