 Percussion

The Percussion department is the rhythmical heart of the CBSM. Both day and evening students have the opportunity of learning percussion and drum-kit with our experienced tutors. The percussion department consists of a fully equipped percussion studio, drum-kit room and a practice room for students to access during the week. All percussion lessons are individual half hourly sessions and drum-kit lessons can be shared or individual half hourly sessions.

All the CBSM bands and orchestras are equipped with a full percussion section to enable students to experience the full range of orchestral instruments. Students begin their ensemble training with Junior Band, followed by Intermediate Band, Concert Orchestra, Concert Band and CBYO.

Examinations
All our students are encouraged to achieve the highest of standards in their performance skills. Our tutors guide students through graded examinations in percussion and drum-kit. We teach ABRSM Percussion syllabus from grade 1 up to Performance Diploma and Trinity Rockschool Grades 1- 8 in drum-kit. All ABRSM examinations are held in the percussion studio so students can perform on instruments they are accustomed to.

Hire of Percussion Instruments
We have practice Glockenspiels which are available for students to hire for the academic year at a small fee and also have the facilities for GCSE and A Level students to use the percussion studio for their practical examinations. Please contact Nicola Such (Head of Percussion and World Music) to arrange.
